Ashutosh Desai

Innovative and motivated Biomedical Engineer, specializing in embedded systems, biomedical electronics and sensors, signal processing, machine learning, and regulatory compliance. My academic and practical experience includes analyzing multisensory data for high-accuracy prediction models, contributing to the Gait Maven project, and leading the conceptualization of a spinal cord stimulation device as a team leader for an academic project.

As a Research Assistant at Tampere University (January-March 2024), I analyzed data from multiple sensors including EMG, heart rate, and inertial navigation sensors to predict oxygen consumption with high accuracy (RMSE of 3.41 ml/min/kg) using LSTM neural networks. This work was part of the GaitMaven project funded by the Academy of Finland, in collaboration with the University of Jyväskylä.

Previously, I served as a Test Engineering Intern at Vistar Electronics in India (December 2019-June 2020), where I facilitated the installation of solar PV farms across 9 sites and implemented testing protocols for solar charge controllers with 98% accuracy in results. This experience provided me with valuable hands-on skills in PCB testing and repair.

I've also gained leadership experience through roles as a Student Ambassador at Tampere University (2022-2023), Logistics Co-Head for sporting events at SIT Pune (2019), and as a Teacher Planner in Cairo through AIESEC (2018), where I taught English and Math to children despite language barriers.

I completed my Master of Science (Technology) degree at Tampere University in Finland, specializing in Biomedical Micro- and Nanodevices within the Master's Programme in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering. My degree predominantly focused on specializing in sensor technology and manufacturing, biomedical electronics, biosignal processing, and regulatory compliance. These skills build perfectly upon my core competencies in electronic hardware design, embedded systems, and signal processing that were developed in my bachelor's.

As part of my coursework, I've led significant projects including a spinal cord stimulation device development team (12 students) where I worked on circuit design and power transmission, and the GutSure project (5 students) where I was responsible for market analysis, business planning, and regulatory compliance. My Master's thesis involved collecting and processing breath pattern data from 30 volunteers using an Ion Mobility Spectrometer for biometric identification.
