We're looking for a (Senior) Embedded Systems Developer to join our Sense team in Helsinki. F-Secure SENSE is our smart home cybersecurity product that protects all internet-enabled devices in the home, from smartphones and computers to IoT devices like smart TVs, baby monitors, and gaming consoles.

As an Embedded Systems Developer, you'll work on the Sense SDK, an embedded security software for consumer routers with event architecture delivering real-time threat protection across diverse hardware platforms. This is deeply technical work at the intersection of networking, security, and embedded systems.

This role is based in Helsinki, Finland, and we work in a hybrid setting with flexibility to work from home while coming together for collaboration at our modern HQ.

Key responsibilities in this role:

Maintaining and developing the Sense SDK C++ core on OpenWrt and proprietary firmware across ARM, MIPS, and x86 architectures
Implementing deep packet inspection (DPI) for content filtering and anomaly detection
Designing and developing features around threat detection, parental controls, and device profiling
Protocol analysis and threat mitigation across TCP/UDP traffic
Writing unit tests, automation tests, and configuring CI/CD pipelines
Cross-compilation and optimization for resource-constrained embedded environments

What are we looking for?

Core Development Skills:

Modern C++ (C++17/20) for resource-constrained Linux environments
Experience with container technologies: LXC, Docker

Network & Security Expertise:

Deep understanding of TCP/IP internals: packet structure, flow control, connection tracking
Experience with deep packet inspection: iptables/nftables, traffic classification, netfilter
Knowledge of network protocols: DNS filtering, DHCP, HTTP/S interception, TCP/IP protocol stack

Embedded Systems:

Cross-compilation experience for ARM, MIPS architectures
Python for tooling and automation

Tech Stack – you should be comfortable with:
C++, Python, OpenWrt, Linux, Shell scripting, iptables/nftables, OpenSSL, libcurl, TCP/UDP, RESTful services

Additional Requirements:

Full professional proficiency in English for collaboration in our international environment
